Trying to better prepare myself for the transition from this political/medical side of the army and learn a few things about my receiving unit. What should I expect? Give me the good and the bad. Thanks.

Just left 575th MCAS's sister unit 520th MCAS if you have any specific questions feel free to message me, I still have some buddies in the unit. I'll give you the good bad and the ugly real quick though. 62nd Medical Brigade was an amazing unit to be assigned to in terms of professional development and leadership. I had the opportunity to work with some of the best military leaders I've met up to this point in my career. The command climate is very supportive of your desire to better yourself and your career. The education center is outstanding on JBLM and you will have ready access to continue your educational goals. The BN is wanting to promote from within and is always willing to assist you in progressing yourself. Now for the bad, you will have to do a lot of self development in terms of medical skills. 56th is currently working on multiple mission sets and they are spread out all over the place. So get used to spending your time wisely to ensure that you maintain the skills that could be necessary for your patients down the line. I have two NCO's who are currently a apart of 575 working as squad leaders for their treatment assets, I would be more than willing to put you in contact with them. Again if you have any specific questions feel free to reach out.

I was in 575 for my entire time in the army. Got out less then a year ago, right before they deployed. If I were to sum up the unit in one word, it'd be inventories. Non stop inventories. You're gonna learn to fold a camo net real good. Seriously, that's pretty much all I remember. The people were great though. Fingers crossed you get put in Evac. The best PLT.

I spent 9 years of my 19 1/2 years in at Ft Lewis, now JBLM and was a great experience. I was with 514th Ambulance for the first 2 years there when I was a medic. Not sure who 575th MCAS is, I was under 62nd MED BGD back then. I suggest you look at the JBML website and read up on it, also not sure if things have changed but there may be a unit sponsor to contact who will be able to answer your questions better. You can send me a direct message if you want and can see what I can dig up.
