I realize that potential for deployment is something that comes with joining and I accept that. However, i'd like to manage my expectations. I've been told by two Navy recruiters that deployments are volunteer only. How true is that? Ill be joining as a Seabee.

Thanks in advance!

This may come as a surprise, your recruiter lied to you. Although you can volunteer to augment another unit, if your battalion is up for deployment, you will go whether you want to or not. Thankfully, the Navy has opened up a lot more opportunities for Seabee rates in non traditional OF7 units so you will have more options to deploy if you want to.

Chief Smith Nailed it. The reserve Seabee Battalions are now on a Deployment schedule. There is always a Reserve Battalion, out now Augmenting the Active Force. As he stated their are several units with in the NECC, Seabees mostly Reserves can be attached to These units will deploy, like Coastal Riverine and the two Reserve NSW's, also Cargo Battalions. So you being a Seabee, you can count on most likely being deployed at least once. The Seabees have reduced Battalions, they have went from 9 Active down to SIX Active and 12 Reserve down to five units, but the work load and training load has not reduced.

CPO (Join to see) thanks for the extra info. I hate that I have to question everything that's said to me by the recruiters. But either way, deployment is something that comes with the commitment and could be a good experience.

Benjamin Pennington - You keep that attuited, and that will take you a long way in the Reserves and Navy. The problem with you recruiter is he probably knows nothing about Seabee's and Seabee Reserves.
