Possible to get MOS (68V) with a pre-req waiver or contigency?

I am PS (E-5) looking to enlist in the Army with MOS 68V. Assuming (1) I can keep my E-5 and (2) it's even available to me, is it possible to get the MOS without having the college pre-req. Specifically I don't have a Chemistry course. Is it possible to get either (a) get a waiver of the requirement altogether (I do have an AAS and have completed EMT-B school as well, if that helps) or (b) get a contract contingent upon passing a Chemistry course? The local community college offers it, and I have no doubt I could pass it, but I wouldn't want to take the course without even knowing if I could get the MOS to begin with.

A recruiter is your best source of information, and their are a couple of NCOs on here who seem to have their finger on the pulse of what is possible in the Recruiting world.
I can see a waiver to maintain SGT, but the likelihood of a enlistment contract based on your passing a college course is far fetched. Would you expect the Army to let you out of such a contract should you fail to pass the course?

1SG, thanks for the input. I was hoping for a contract like "you pass Chem110 before shipping out, or we re-class you based on Needs of the Army". I would take that contract, because I have no doubt I could pass a Chem100 course, however, I don't want to shell out $400ish just for a chance at getting the MOS. If that makes sense....

I'm sorry I got you all messed up. 68V requires one humanities and one English course. There are a couple other 68 MOSs that require Chem, but 68V isn't one of them.

SFC, do you know if this changed recently? I would have bet my bottom dollar the matrix/spreadsheet I got sent indicated a chemistry course.

SGT Jamarl Jones no, that's not recent. In fact, I'm certain the last 68V I put in the field about 5 years ago had the same requirements.
But, you can always check the DA Pam 611-21 or the ATRRS course catalog to verify. That's where the prerequisites are listed.

The Chem pre req changed if memory serves me correct in 2011 back when the contracted college was Edison CC. I believe they’ve changed to another college since. Here’s a good forum to ask your question.

No only the MOS propenent can waive prerequisites, no one else. The MOS requires the courses because you'll graduate with an associate degree.

What does that mean, by way of joining as PS? Would a counselor at MEPS be able to pull strings to get it waived? Or is it only possible to get it waived for in-service re-class?

SGT Jamarl Jones I have no idea. I only know that only a proponent is authorized to waive prerequisites. You can always call the proponent and ask.
