Can someone give an example of how long it took you to land a job using USAJOBS after the closing of a job posting??

It depends on a number of factors. First, make sure you are using their resume format or it most likely won't even get through. Second, make sure you have the keywords necessary to get through (A good technique for this is to take the job description, paste it into your resume at the end, and shrink it to 1 font and make the color white so it doesn't show up. No one will ever see it but the computer will pick it up). Once you have ensured that your resume will get through to someone it will usually take a ridiculous amount of time for them to get back to you. If you happen to know someone at the VA you are applying to talk to them and they might be able to expedite the process. Finally be prepared to wait a month to hear back and another month or two for the process to be complete. I've never successfully completed the process myself but in my old position I helped a number of Vets go through the process. It's arduous to say the least.

That is brilliant!! That needs to get some serious coverage! I'd like to share it with some of my colleagues on LinkedIn. Would you mind?

I don't know about the computer screening part, but at least for the AF if you can make it past AFPC, you have a good chance. It all depends like he said based on your resume, experience, and willingness to move in order to obtain the job. For a while I heard nothing, then 4 positions at one time 3 GS and 1 NAF... Be patient and keep at it and you will make it. I had nobody to help me get in, just perseverance.

They were all by phone due to the distance. Had they been local I would have been expected to come in for the interview.

In 2014 I applied for a GS 14 positions in DC and since I was in the local area I had to do a face to face interview.

Timeline for that application:
Announcement Closed 20 MAY, Interviewed 25 JUN, Offered job 15 AUG.

Still trying - I started back in early December.

So far, I know three of my applications have been "reviewed" and one was "referred" to the hiring official, but that was as of a few weeks ago and I haven't seen any charge in status from then.

I've been on the other side of the spectrum too as a hiring official. I think it all depends on the priority of the job they are trying to fill as well. I had a pretty critical position we needed to fill and we pushed through every step as quickly as we could, but it still took a couple months to officially hire someone. Other times, I've seen it take much longer.

Maj Matt Hylton Thanks for the response, mine are all in "reviewed" status at this point. I will keep an eye out for "referred". Thanks S/F

Nothing yet. I got referred for one about a month ago and haven't heard anything. I just had two more change status to referred yesterday as well. Luckily, on one of those, I know a guy working in the office where the position is being advertised. He's trying to keep me in the loop on the status of the hiring. Outside of that, it just seems like a waiting game until someone calls you to do an interview or to notify you that you weren't selected.
