Anyone have any info on prior service in AIT for Cav scouts? Am I a private all over again or will I get a little more freedom like non-combat MOS reclasses?

I am a 19D currently at 20 years. Why do you want to reclass?
You mentioned prior service as in you were other than Army?
The "inserts" will have some kind of leeway BUT be prepared to drop when they drop. Be prepared to assist the DS with getting things in order. Be prepared to be with young privates again who will get you and your Platoon smoked. It should come easy...in a way. If you were Army before, most of the privates are going to ask what is the army like day to day, just don't be that douchebag who tells horror stories about how "the army sucks", "you're going to hate life", and "I heard about that unit and they suck". That already de-motivates them and already has a mind set of how the Army is, then their morale is down prior to even starting. I hate that. Like I actually despise the people who do that to them. Really irks the sh!t out of me. Don't be the barracks lawyer or the PNN, Private News Network anchorman. Obviously, you cannot smoke them or lock them up. Tell the DS.
As for freedom, why are you concerned about that? Just asking. Well, I know that the inserts are able to go off post only when the Troop makes it to certain phases. Could change but don't expect it right then and there.
If you were other than Army, like the Navy, etc...be prepared to be "teased" a little because you know, the Navy jokes, Air Force jokes, etc...but don't be a dumb ass on the range like flagging someone or doing whatever.
As for you losing rank, that is for your recruiter to decide if you were out of the military for X amount of years. If you are going from one Army MOS to another, you shouldn't have to lose rank but I think you would lose your P status.

Thanks for the info. They classify me as "prior service" but I'm on a conditional release switching from reserves to active. So I'm still in and I dont have an actual break in service. Just want to know what to expect since I leave in a week.

Great Point SFC Cruz! Weather you switch from combat or non combat MOS you need to excel beyond everyone. You need to prove to yourself that you want to be in Army and not treating it like a civilian job. The Army is stronger with great leaders and soldiers who would like to lead. I was a 19K and "Inserts" or "reclass" soldiers had their own separate Rooms. They did not form with us except when its time to go to classes. Depending where your heading as Station wise. They have their own rules and regulations when it comes to "free time" You will be in active duty now and there are lots of opportunities. You will do well, Since youre moving forward to Active Duty.

Mostly will come down to your Drills, however when I went through and reclassed as an NCO I had a separate barracks but E4 and below reclass stated with the privates. Freedom during AIT again depends on your Drills but typically after the period of instruction is over you can change out to civies and roam post or leave as long as you are back by lights out. If you want more details feel free to shoot me a message.

So you went as an NCO? You didn’t have to take a demotion? Also were you behind the power curve being an NCO reclassing to that MOS?

SGT (Join to see) yes. Went in as an E-5. I know guys who went through as high as E-7. As long as HRC determines that you keep your rank you won't get demoted. Honestly really depends on what unit you get assigned to after AIT and how willing you are to be humble and learn. I was a little behind the curve but caught up quick.

So I did my AIT for 19D in 2010 at Fort Knox so I’m sure some things have changed but our reclass guys were “released” at certain points and housed in different barracks if that says anything. You definitely won’t be treated like a BCT PVT.

Appreciate it! I know since it's an OSUT MOS it keeps the privates in the same bunk for 17 weeks. Makes sense to at least house reclass soldiers in different barracks.
