So i am going through the MEB process for National Guard right now but am really confused on what is going on. I have a service connected disability that was granted in 2008 in between my time of coming off of active duty and joining the national guard. Since my time in the guard my kidney condition has deteriorated from 72 percent function to 36 percent currently and i am being forced to go through an MEB. Right now they are gathering documentation from my doctors and by VA standards i would be upgraded to somewhere between 60 to 80 percent. My concern is twofold though, the first concern is my Nephrologist submitted his documentation only detailing the disease i have and not the current stage with the labs. I do have a VA appt tomorrow that will get my updated labs but i am not sure if that will be seen when my packet is submitted to the VA. The second question is on the medical retirement piece for the guard, i know for active duty if you are over 30 percent then the medical retirement pay is immediate, is it the same for the guard or do you have to wait till 59? I have 23.5 years of service and already submitted my 20 year letter as part of the MEB packet.
