How does military housing work, and what are my best options in this situation (details below)?

Military housing.. How does it work and what are my best options?
Little back story.
My wife and I own a house in New York.
Between all the standard bills and a few credit cards we have great credit and relatively low debt. She has good income and we have a child.
I have some info already and know how boned I am about bah and the whole geographical bachelor not being a thing but I don’t know how barracks works if I’m married, bah being that they could technically be moved etc.
Looking for some guidance/recommendations on what to do here.

Short answer: You can't live in the barracks while receiving BAH, best bet to find a roommate.
Short advice: sell the house, move your family to you.
More questions than answers to provide. Is she looking to move here? Are you willing to sell or rent the house? What are you trying to accomplish? Please provide a better picture to help give you more solid advice.

Understood sergeant. Both options are on the table.. I’d want to rent the house and have her move down for the duration of the contract. While she does want to do that she doesn’t want to leave her job and our families. Stuck between a rock and a hard place really. However basically I’d have to get an apartment regardless to keep the BAH. Is there a timeframe I have to do so?

Ultimately a decision has to be made. It was quite the change for my wife as well, but she has managed to get her degree online and worked at every location we have been stationed. Granted her job is available in almost all states locations, so shes been flexible in that regard, still sucks having to re apply and re certify everywhere. We've made it a point to take leave back to Arizona at least yearly to see family, not as easy overseas, but travel helped with that one. As far as I'm aware, you're not allowed to stay in the barracks at all due to double dipping; bah and barracks. Best bet is to discuss with your leadership for time and advice.

SGT (Join to see) - In reality, you don't have a timeframe to do it in. If the other powers that be find out that you are double dipping you may be responsible for paying the service back; however, I do agree with SFC Marc W..

SGT Javier Silva understood sergeant. That’s not at all why I’m trying to do for sure. SFC Marc W. thank you for that, we will for sure have to figure it out. Probably one of the harder parts of my military career so far.

PFC, honestly talk with your leadership. No you are not entitled to BAH with dependent rate in the Baracks. However, you can get slammed for not supporting your family. If your spouse doesn’t want to move, you ultimately cannot make her. There is the option of renting out your house with a realtor and moving about. Some families do do this, you know.
