How long does it take for a Secret clearance to be renewed?

I have looked up this question on Rally Point and the replies are from a couple years ago and a lot can change in that amount of time.
I'm specifically looking for people who recently got their Secret clearance renewed. I started filling out my packet and im dropping it in about 4 months.

SPC (Join to see) - My most recent security clearance eligibility didn't come in until we were half-way through our deployment in Afghanistan. I know some that didn't come through until the end of the deployment. Just as SFC(P) (Join to see) & SFC Michael D. have said, there is a lot that goes into determining and adjudicating your eligibility. However, I would drop that packet as soon as possible, so it gets started. I believe the timeline now is 90 days to 1 year for submitting packets for renewal. Was this a command directed renewal? Or was it a "hey, I need to do this" renewal?

I'm now a contractor and have to maintain a security clearance and I know its coming up here in about 5 months.

SPC (Join to see) - It is the same time frame for submitting your SF-86/e-QIP. Get with your COR, and/or Company's Security Manager to see when they will want you to submit it.

It is a crap shoot nowadays. I submitted mine back on Dec 4th, Dec 17th had a sit down with investigator. It is now June 20th and still nothing. My security manager looked again in JPAS yesterday and nothing so it has been over 6 months for me and no word. They said the processing time would be faster but so far seems like it isn't. Others in my company took awhile.

SGT Javier Silva - He said he was going to once he gets into the office tomorrow. Mine was pretty much cut and dry the investigator said it was his fastest ever sit down lol.

It's irrelevant. When it's time to renew, your clearance will stay in place until your review is complete.

Just want to make sure I understand what you are saying, when I drop my packet for my clearance I will still keep my full secret clearance not an interim until my check comes back?

SPC (Join to see) what I'm saying is that if your clearance is current when you go to renew it, there will be no negative impacts. Whether you have an interim or not is irrelevant

SFC (Join to see) The only thing that will affect me currently is I work as a contractor for the USMC and I have access to NIPR and SIPR. I have a privileged accounts that require a full secret. I can do my job with out it my privileged account but if I get to keep my full clearance while the clearance is being renewed then I can keep my accounts which makes me job eaiser. I'm just trying to get informed to know what to expect.

SPC (Join to see) it happens to every single person with a clearance. It wouldn't make sense to suspend everyone's access for a year at a time. Your clearance is extended till the reinvestigation is completed. That's not the technical answer, but the effect is that nothing changes for you.
