I’m currently in RSP with the Army national guard. I ended up being maxed out on mutas before my last drill. Can they just not pay me?

Prior to my July drill I had 35/36 of my mutas for the year and this wasn’t caught ahead of time. I attended July drill like any other, and had no idea there was a pay issue (or a muta cap for that matter) until I didn’t get paid when the rest of my company already had. I contacted my RSP office and they told me about the muta cap and now I’m being told they’re only going to pay me one muta (maybe) despite attending the full 4 muta drill. They are exempting me from the next two drills for the rest of the fiscal year but I’m frustrated that they’re saying they won’t pay me for the work I did. I was REALLY counting on that money. Is it true they can just not pay me??

Sorry to tell you, but you have maxed out your allotted MUTA time. Even though they cannot pay you regular MUTA pay, what the unit can do is a work-around and pay you with RMA funds. Or, they could even cut you orders for those days you were over your MUTA days.

That's life...maybe they will give you points. Please go to the nearest VA cemetery and tell the headstones how bad you have it...then go to the VA Hospital and complain to the disabled vets...they will listen. I remember a fun drill.. waving at Air Guard Capt Dean Martin Jr as he took off flying toward the San Bernardino Mountains... his F-4 slammed into them a few minutes later...or running across an old National Guard buddy who took an IED explosion and now is a brain injured cripple. The Army Guard is deadly serious. I've never cared about fun JrROTC or RSP programs with pretend soldiers...if you have a pay problem..solve it.

If someone gets told in advance that they're not going to get paid, they can choose to not show up. This is basically advocating getting free labor.
