I'm trying to reclass to 46S, Public Affairs, a somewhat new MOS that is under strength. Im currently a 25Q and I believe we are on that fine line of balance and over strength. A couple of months ago there were slots available for the Jan/Feb time frame. However, my new retention NCO was unsure of how to proceed. Things got busy and I havent really had too many chances to work with him. Today he tells me that there aren't any slots for schools available anymore and asks if I'd like to extend for year to wait and see if anything pops up. I've considered calling a branch manager but I wasnt sure how that conversation would go. I dont want to extend for a year chasing something that may not come up.

Thank you to any and all who helps provide information. Every bit helps and I'll be happy to provide any more info.

So, you're solution is to do what? Rely on the internet to give you unverified information to make life decisions, when you have a SME at your disposal? Just because you don't like the answer doesn't make it less true.
Even if I tell you that there are class seats available, your career counselor is still the one who processes the request. They gave you the best answer, you should listen to it.

I apologize, I didnt intend to minimize or devalue my current career counselor's word or anything. We have both agreed to go out and try other venues of information to find out more. He hasn't dealt with this MOS before so we are just trying to find more information. I've even contacted DINFOS who suggested my career counselor should contact APAC for assistance. I was just hoping to see if anyone else could provide a second set of eyes to see if they see anything different from what he saw. I've also contacted soldiers who have reclassed to 46S to see if they can recall what their counselors saw.

SPC (Join to see) I can tell you that this MOS notoriously has zero open seats, and that their classes go unfilled. It's been a problem for over a year since they merged the two 46 MOSs. I have had Soldiers with acceptance memos to the MOS who waited almost a year to get a seat. The issue comes from the proponent not allocating enough seats to reclass. Unfortunately, all you can do is resubmit your request once a month till it gets approved.

46S is not a new MOS. All they basically did was combine 46Q and 46R into one MOS. You'll be required to do a voice test before getting a school date. Your best bet is to contact a public affairs unit that can steer you in the right direction and put you in contact with the people you need to be in contact with.
