Is it possible to switch from Active duty to National Guard while at AIT?

Hello, I’m currently at AIT to become a 15t. I’m currently having family issues at home and don’t want to leave the Army, is there any possible way I can switch over to active or reserves so I can get everything figured out. Another big factor into this choice is I’m being stationed in Korea for a year and it’ll be very difficult to stay in touch with my family to stay updated. Any advice?

No, it's not possible to transfer into the NG while you're on active duty. You have to be discharged from active duty first. You could separate for family hardship. You could even separate to join ROTC in a Green to Gold program. As for a DD368 that others will tell you about, there is no conditional release for enlisted Soldiers to go into the Reserves. You have to finish your contract.
If this is actually a family emergency that they need you at, (not just, "my family is having issues") you can apply for a compassionate reassignment to be closer to home. But, if it's not an immediate family member with a critical need of your help, you have to learn that other people are responsible for themselves.

As mentioned by SFC Ralph E Kelley, DD-368 is used for National Guard members that want to go on active duty.

Potentially a family hardships if in fact that is the issue and not -like all of us who have been married and deployed / assigned to some not nice places - normal couples issue. We all have those in military couples.
As I type this answer, I already seen 2 folks trying to go from NG to active. And there are many more. So take your time and talk the matter with your spouse.
