Hey everyone so I currently have 5 months until my ETS date in the army and I’ve just been recommended for an MEB due to my uncontrolled asthma that I’ve been struggling with for the last year. My question is how likely is it for me to finish the process of the MEB before my ETS date so I don’t have to extend?

I don’t want to extend, but I also wan’t to be evaluated for an issue that’s been a major life stressor for me, and I feel like I’d regret not going through the MEB down the road.

Also, should I have to extend, what happens if they declare me fit and I’m already past my original ETS date? Would I get out as soon as they make that decision or would I have to stay in for longer?

Any help/info would be much appreciated. Just new to this process, and want to be properly educated.

Thanks in advance!

Your ETS date will be extended for you Ling enough to complete the MEB. The average time line is around 6 months. Your PEBLO will explain it to you when you are referred to MEB. If you're found fit for duty you'll be given enough time to transition. If you're referred to MEB you'll almost certainly not be found fit for duty

Once a MEB is initiated it takes precedence over your ETS. There’s no way anyone on here can tell you how long the process is because it’s different for each person. If it goes past your ETS, paperwork will get sent from the medical facility to extend you and a new date will be established. If it comes back fit, you’ll be allowed to ETS based upon the new ETS date that was given from the extension.

If your MEB gets approved before your ETS Date they will give you the date in which you will be discharged. Good Luck to you....

Look, the MEB can affect the rest of your life, possibly a VA a rating which can translate into monthly checks, your ETS is just going to put you back on the civy street. Plus you could be eligible for some medical help from the VA.
