How many Engineers are able to stay somewhat within their field of study from college?

I want to go active but I'm concerned I may not use my degree and then it will be old when I get out, inhibiting me from getting my PE certification. Long term post sservice I want to be doing militarry contracting for engineering companies in areospace andd precision parts.

Depending on the unit and how well they manage their construction program you should be exposed to a wide range of Engineering opportunities.
