I had a waiver sent in about early-mid August after I completed MEPS. My direct commission packet was submitted to the board on September 10th with an exception to policy since my medical waiver hadn't come back yet. Now my board status is "pending exception," which my recruiter is thinking means I was selected, but they won't release the official results until my medical waiver status comes back. Today marks about 8 weeks for the medical waiver being at OTSG. I know that it's basically one person reviewing all the waiver requests, and they review them in the order they come in. I just didn't think it would take 8 weeks. Anyone have any idea if I should expect news next week or should I just get comfortable waiting for a while longer? I was really hoping I would find out this week...

It can take awhile. My waiver for my eyes took around a month or so. It was a pretty straight forward simple waiver since everything went through fine with the specialist at MEPS. It’s also the fall and several boards just met or are meeting so they are probably flooded with medical waivers right now so it might take a little longer.
The sad answer is it takes as long as it takes.

Thanks for the response. When they cleared my medical to even allow me to go to MEPS, it took about 6 weeks or so. I guess I hoped it wouldn't take much longer than that after MEPS for the waiver. I will continue to wait as patiently as I can. Maybe next week will finally be the week.

My packet was pending exception as wel when I was waiting for my medical waiver. In my case it meant the board had accepted my packet and recommended commission but my file was waiting for the waiver. So most likely it’s a good sign for you. Fingers crossed! What’s your AOC going to be?James Stroup

My recruiter thinks it’s a good sign too. I’m just hoping I get the medical waiver approved. My AOC will be 64A.

Dang. Mine is for an asymptomatic brain tumor I had removed in 2011 (no symptoms before, during, after surgery. Diagnosis was incidental from a CT scan I had to check for a concussion that I didn’t actually have)... have had repeat MRI with no signs of recurrence and the type of tumor doesn’t grow back after complete resection.
I guess I’ll get comfortable, though.
