My window just opened up to reclass and I really want to get into a 68C slot. I'e talked to my retention NCO and haven't had much luck. I get answers such as its open to never mind it wont be open for five more years...

Don’t switch. If you want to be a nurse do the pre read for AECP and become an RN/Officer. We are filled up and promotion to SGT on up is gonna be tight. If I could go back that’s what I’d do.

This is what I tell literally every single Soldier who sits in my office and requests 68C. They believe it's a shortcut to an RN because - "nursing". I explain to them that by the time they finish 68C school and are eligible for a nursing program, they could be a year away from commissioning as an RN. Or they think the JSST transcripts count for actual college credit. But, it falls on deaf ears and most of them just want an easy answer that doesn't require any work on their part. To make it worse, the Army killed promotions for them by switching them from 68W ASI M6 to 68C and making the field so small that someone has to die or retire before you get promoted.

SPC (Join to see) it's a commissioning program meaning it will be competitive. You'll need two years of college and to be accepted to a nursing school. The benefit is that you go to school on active duty till you graduate and commission once you pass the exam.

It is not 100% guaranteed but everyone I know has gotten into it. Also, PA school is available through IPAP. It has less pre reqs but the coursework is all army run and it is brutally fast paced. But you get a masters degree when complete.

It almost never has slots. Every once in a while a few slots open up. It's not a matter of how much you want them or how qualified you are, there simply aren't seats available. Even the recruiters have the same problem with low density MOS seats such as these. It's a very small field with an even smaller amount of class seats in a year. If/when you do get a seat it will be a class date for 2021 at the earliest. You can only get a seat as a non promotable E4. So if you do a little backwards planning, the SRR is 31 months from graduation, plus 12 for school plus travel to follow on so add 2 more months. That means your report date to school needs to be no later than 45 months from your ETS. If your soonest class date is a year away you need to get a class date by the time you hit three years in service. Assuming you're on the typical 3 years x number weeks contract, that gives you approximately one year or less to get a class date.
My point is that's a small window of time that closely encrouches on your ETS date. So, have a backup plan of when you will pick a different MOS/Duty station, or enroll in SFLTAP immediately.
