I noticed that one of the discussion points was DA photo. Should there be an excuse/ reason as to why senior NCOs still have DA Photos with the Amry Greens instead of the ASU...

A senior NCO still wearing greens is showing no desire to remain in the Army of the future which is the message it sends regardless of wear out dates.
On the MSG board AAR notes, honest they are a crock. It's the same bullets every year just in a different order.
Promotions are based on the budget and MOS strength, one is too high and the other isn't high enough. The war time budget allowed too many promotions between 07-09 and now senior ranks are over. The QSP is supposed to make some room by cleaning out the trash but in my MOS 31B senior NCOs rarely if ever get in trouble.
I know what the board members look for on the board have less to do with what they put in the AAR comments.
This was the year of the 79R, last year was Engineers.

SFC Grudzinski,

I just want to comment, true last and this year Engineers selected a lot for promotions. But the reason for that is the Brigade Engineer Battalion stand up which brought in eight new BEBs to the Army thus adding 40 new 1SG slots and 16 Operations jobs as well. The next two years there will be 14-18 new BEB activation's.
So I think those promotions are valid.

1SG,
I wasn't discounting the Engineer Corp growth I was merely pointing out trends. This year ALARACT 147 caused a major exodus from the 79R field therefore opening up several positions which triggered the promotion trend for that MOS. Unless the Army opens a bunch of new MP units promotions for us will remain low.

I guess the best response I can come up with is :

ALARACT 202/2008

17. BEGINNING IN 4TH QUARTER FY 2009, SOLDIERS HAVE THE OPTION TO TAKE THEIR
OFFICIAL DA PHOTO IN THE ASU. THIS IS STRICTLY OPTIONAL ON THE SOLDIERS PART.
SOLDIERS CAN STILL CONTINUE TO TAKE THEIR DA PHOTO IN THE ARMY GREEN SERVICE
UNIFORM UNTIL THE MANDATORY POSSESSION DATE OF 4TH QUARTER FY 2014. DURING THIS TRANSITION PERIOD, OFFICIAL DA PHOTOS CAN BE IN EITHER THE ARMY GREEN SERVICE UNIFORM OR THE ASU.

I know what the All Army Action message says... but as leaders should't we be setting the standards in every way? I was brought up to purchase the items on my own and not have to wait until the Army gave them to me, or use clothing allowance...and senior leaders at the Pentagon don't wear Army Greens anymore...

I would argue that waiting until the last possible moment to transition to the dress uniform adopted by the Army is akin to meeting the minimum standard. You may be right, but you do not set the best example as a leader and a professional. I understand that many may have personally preferred the tradition of the greens, and purchasing ASUs is a financial hurdle for all of us that had to transition, but at this point it is difficult to understand why a professional leader could not have made the switch.

Agree. Leaders set the example. I'm going to have to dive in and get a dress mess some day as well. Comes with the territory.
