Am I able to re-enlist if I was medically discharged for depression?

I had hoped on getting cleared before I got discharged but my recruiters gave up on me and stopped contacted me. I’ve been to basic but didn’t make it to AIT I was split op

What is your RE Code and the disposition code on the 214? I imagine your discharge was uncharacterized due to the IET discharge. Re-tag your discussion with RE-Code, re-enlistment is the wrong tag for this. Click on the tag and look at the resources posted there.

PFC (Join to see) - until you have a separation document in hand, you are still in the RC. You should have received a 214 when you left basic training....as it covers periods of Active Duty. How did you determine you were discharged? If you fail to participate in BTA, then you will be separated and it will be on you.
The RC usually sends official documents to you registered mail. Do they have the correct address?
Call or better yet, go in to the unit administrator who is full time and simply ask what is going on.

Its been along time but, would the TDP apply? Trainee Discharge Program was a
program where for whatever reason a person was discharged in the 1st
12 months, its like it never happened. After the 12 months that same person
could re-apply to go back through Basic & AIT as a new member. LTC Mackey is
correct, stay on top to get a Copy of your DD214 to confirm & a good idea is
connecting with your recruters office....send a certified letter, bet someone will
be contacting you. Good luck.

SGT Johnny Cooper - what is different here is he did split training from a TPU and finished basic training. He did not do 12 months so he is considered an IET failure. They get an uncharacterized discharge....issue is he completed basic, should have a 214 reflecting that period of Active Duty, uncharacterized simply due to duration. The National Guard issues an NGB 22 for their service. Federal Mobilizations are covered with additional 214s, as well as any AD training like AIT, BCT, and NCOES as examples. Floating question mark in what the USAR issues for their service. Last time I checked it was a statement of service.
If the soldier was discharged for a medical reason there has to be some process documents that do that. On AD, there would be an MEB, there would be a chapter packet IAW AR635-200. There is an equivalent RC regulation AR137- something.

Yes, sounds like many moving details that has to be addressed by the medical
board, thus best for him, if he really wants to serve is to request the waiver.
as you have already posted. This is a great question, thanks for your attention
I am sure he as well as others can read and make the plans. Perhaps he will
push to get proper data, strange he appears not to have all the final Docs.

LTC Mackay said it best. It comes down to what your RE Code is. There are a lot of questions regarding your depression that will need to be answered if you decide you want to re-enter the service.

I'd forget about it and focus on your recovery. If training causes emotional illness ie mood disorder.. it's better you caught it early.. next time keep your mouth shut.
