Does anybody remember the Jungle Patch? What year was the School in Panama ? Why was the Jungle school obsolete and closed down?

It was not Obsolete, instead the school had to move out of Panama. They tried to run it in Hawaii, but different jungle, higher costs, etc made it unfeasible.

It went away when Fort Sherman closed in 1999. Another school was established in Hawaii 15 years later, but there Is no Jungle Expert badge/patch in AR670-1 nor AR600-8-22 Military Awards. Of course there was that whole Operation Just Cause thing.

EDIT: the Jungle Expert Patch and the current Tab are locally authorized insignia and are not recognized Army-wide, only within the command that issued them. US Army Pacific authorizes a tab.

Jungle school is currently offered to individuals who serve in Hawaii
