1 in a thousand, probably only saw movies about guns.

I believe it, most have never handled a weapon and have no concept of basic weapon operations. This training is part of turning civilians into Soldiers....no problem here.

In 1973 when I went through basic at Fort Dix I was issued an M-16. We were taught to disassemble, clean and reassemble. There were time tests. We even had do to that in total darkness. That weapon became part of me.

That's a great point SGT Rick Ash, we have to use that weapons immersion to break the barrier of fear that most young Soldiers bring with them.
