I found this official lineage publication that explains their distinctive unit insignia for 114. They have origins in Mississippi ARNG. https://history.army.mil/html/books/060/60-11_pt2/CMH_Pub_60-11_pt2.pdf
I could not find the earlier unit SSI, the SSI is associated with their current organizations, which would be the BCTs or Divisional assignments. 2-114 is assigned to 155th ABCT and uses their SSI.

SSG (Join to see) - part 1 of the series may have more on a unique SSI for the 114th. Army unit patches didn't real start to exist until the end of WWI. They were unofficial then became accepted. Regulation was uneven at the beginning, in many cases the unit simply dreaming one up. Especially as the United States Army began the quest to stand up 100 divisions for WWII.
