What are the options available for a non-command sponsored family in Korea?

Very simple question that seems to come up a lot. A military member receives orders to Korea but non command sponsored. Spouse is korean and children have dual citizenship. SM brings family on own dime. What are the options available for family?

None....All service members must have an approved command sponsorship in order to receive any entitlements, to include medical, commissary, and px privilege regardless if the spouse is originally from Korea. The family will also occur all medical and dental expenses because again, they do not have an approved Command sponsorship. The Soldier would still have to live in the barracks, he will occur all cost and will not receive any OHA or housing. More importantly, he can be subject to UCMJ action because he bought his family over without approval and his Command would have to answer to the USAFK General as to why.
I never could understand why Soldiers insist on doing things like this and then get upset with the Army claiming they are not receiving support. If the Soldier want entitlements for his family, then he needs to do the right thing and apply for command sponsorship....

Okay, so he will do an Un-accompanied your. That’s even worst, if he was denied but took his family anyway, why do he feel his family is entitled anyway? That was not a smart move. At the end of the day, he gets no entitlements for his family. If he is receiving BAH, for a location stateside in which his family was suppose remain, he’s committing fraud if they are in Korea. Nothing good will come out of his decision to bring them anyway. Thomas Dunkins

Update to this post. SM already left and took their family. Some one in korea told them to apply for in country command sponsor. I'm eager to see how this plays out.

If your spouse can stay in the states it’s better to stay near family there while you are gone if you can’t get command sponsored. That way you won’t pay out of pocket like the other were saying.

Family is gonna have to find a place to live on their own dime. Plus, since Command Sponsorship was denied (or never applied for), SM will probably have to live on base while family lives off base. SM can request special permission to reside off base with family, but approval is gonna be a roll of the dice.
