Can I Choose what state I move to for reserves after my active duty contract is done?

I am active duty right now and have about 2 years left, and after I have an additional 2 years reserves. I enlisted in Nevada for active duty. I would like to move to Hawaii right after my active duty is over to room with some friends and go to school using my GI bill. Is it possible for me to move straight to Hawaii after my active duty is over and serve my remaining 2 years reserves there Even tho I enlisted and my address is set to Nevada? Would I need to change my address to the house I would be living in Hawaii?

Yes. You can request any reserve unit with an open slot. You may be asked to sign a mileage waiver, agreeing to travel over 50 miles. You are responsible for getting to training. There are plenty of Soldiers that drive across state lines or fly to other states for monthly training. The Reserves does not have a specified residence for unit assignments.

Yes, It's pretty simple. First you need a letter of acceptance from your desired college. This will prevent any possible retention issues. Second, I hope you realise there are only 17 reserve units on Oahu. If you already have unit that will take you that's great. By the looks of it your MOS will have slots. I think you will be fine, nothing to worry about. Good luck!
