Does optioning to be Navy Reserve have an affect on job availability and my ability to enlist?

I passed the medical at MEPS and got an 88 on the ASVAB, but when it was time to pick a classification, the recruiter told me that there weren't any jobs available right now and so I wasn't able to enlist. Is that possible? And if it is, how long do I have to wait until a job opening comes up? Did optioning to be a navy reserve have an affect on the job availability? I want to be part of the military, but I also have a civilian career that I want to pursue and if the military is going to take a while, I might back out from joining.

If you want a guaranteed job, go Army. If you want a guaranteed culture, pick a certain branch. Army is the only branch that guarantees all enlistees their MOS prior to enlistment. In the Navy you might have to join as an unrated or as a rate you don't want.

Since it got difficult you should quit immediately.
The Navy Reserve is small. They just don’t enlist people at random. There has to be a slot open in a unit

Understood, sir. My civilian career is just a way to help my family financially. Joining the military is my dream and goal in life. My family was understanding enough to wait another year so I can enlist. But after knowing that there were no navy reserve jobs available right now, I don't if I should keep them waiting. I really want to be part of the military and fight for this country. In fact, I'm planning to switch to active after 3 years, when my family doesn't need financial help anymore. I just want to know if it's possible for me to enlist this year, sir. If not, then, sadly, I have to let it go.

Preril Lopat so your civilian career, is that more or less salary than an AD E4? You are better off financially on AD unless you have a known salary comparison. It’s also faster to come in AD than reserve. This time of year isn’t pipeline season. May - Sep is when the pipeline is likely at full capacity timed with HS graduation. It’s better for you to go AD then go reserve than the other way around.
