Is there any regulation regarding being recalled while on approved leave?

A very good NCO was recalled during an ORA inspection while on approved leave. The ticket cost him several hundred dollars. Is there any regulation that says how this must be done? The higher ups make it seem as though they can recall you on a whim. Thankfully the NCO is well recognized and was later reimbursed with the help of the BC later but other soldiers may not be as lucky.

If you look at the regulation you'll see that leave can be revoked by the commander at any time.

It's actually a damn fine BC that pushed to get him reimbursed since leave travel is the responsibility of the soldier, regardless if his leave was ended early or not.

That is pretty messed up. If you spent 2,000 dollars on a ticket, there has to be a REAL reason, not capricious.

SSgt (Join to see) - Nothing has change since I retired in 1993 except the price of the tickets. Normally cancelled leaves returns are under written orders by the CO:
"at the earliest possible time, by all available transportation via space available travel to include DoD owned or controlled aircraft when said aircraft are not fully booked with passengers traveling with or under unit orders".

Let me explain a bit more. Apparently it was pushed down that no one was to take leave during the inspection but the NCO in question did not receive this information, nor was his leave revoked before he signed out. Cancelling leave is not the norm but the regulation gives the commander the absolute right to do so based on what he deems "military necessity."

SGT (Join to see) - question to you is why are you asking about the regulation and what it states on original post if you have the answer above? Glad NCO had a very good BC to get him reimbursed even though he was not obligated to do so

1SG Thomas Jasak - I was informed by several NCOs on this thread that there was a regulation. I did some research and I now know the regulation as I did not know it before posting starting this thread.

SPC George Salazar - thank you for clarifying me but my old NCO days are kicking in and would like to give you some sound advice. Before you go asking for regulation information it would behoove you to do so to research this yourself so that you know how to research regulations and understand them better for future use especially if you are or will ever be in charge of Soldiers. Good luck with the rest of your career.
