What do you do when you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed?

Are you stressed or overwhelmed by all the news of the COVID-19 outbreak? One of our Cohen Clinics put together a few tips to that may help. What do you do? Add other suggestions to the list.
1. Breathe. When there are things you don't have control over, take a deep breath and practice mindfulness.
2. Focus on what you DO have control over.
3. Limit your news intake.
4. Don't panic. Follow CDC recommendations.
5. Try to maintain your normal routine, as much as possible.
6. Eat healthy foods in moderation.
7. Get outdoor exercise every day.
8. Maintain a normal sleep schedule.
9. Talk to friends on the phone if you're feeling lonely.
10. Try to do fun things that are new to you - and keep your brain busy!

These are great strategies. In my clinical experience,aerobic exercise confers a degree of protection.
Focusing on your more immediate environment is what we refer to as "an internal locus of control". It too confers protection. Focusing on what you still have also confers protection.
When we are faced w/ a threat to our well being we can flee, freeze, or face it.In facing it we utilizing what we refer to as "the challenge appraisal".
