I am receiving a medical discharge from the Army Reserves and being issued a DD256 I don't know what it is, so can anyway shed some light on it and what benefits I could receive?

It's a certificate for an Honorable Discharge. It has no administrative value and it's just a certificate.

If a dd214 is coca cola, a dd256 is diet coke. It's just proof that you served but doesn't give out as much information on your service.
