Anyone's thoughts on this. I was downtown Nashville last weekend and this one road was full of homeless people. They were all asking for money and some of them were trying to be funny to cheer up people's days and get a smile. There was this group of soldiers who walked by and one of them asked if he had money to spare, he started cussing at them and telling him he shouldn't have risked his freedom for his kind. The others joined in after a while. My question is is this right to hold yourself like your better than others just because you've seen combat.

I absolutely think it is uncalled for any service member to put themselves on a pedestal because they've been deployed. We didn't sign up to serve if civilians fulfill "x" conditions. We joined, and many of us have deployed.
But I am of the opinion that we should remain respectful and humble. Humility can keep us level headed, keep us from saying things that are unnecessary.
What do we thrive on? Things like competition, confidence, and challenging ourselves are a few things that are key to a successful mindset. But to demean other people because you fought for them is rude at the least.

Deployment and serving is a sacrifice so many of us eventually have to make. We should not flaunt our experiences to draw attention to ourselves while out in town.

See I feel that mentality takes away from the purpose of deploying in the first place. If we as an army fights for freedom how can we criticize others for using their freedom that we fight so hard for?
