I have lived off-post but am considering moving on-post. Help! What are the benefits and disadvantages of each ?

One huge benefit of living off post is that your neighbors aren't all up in your business. If my wife and I come home at 3AM Saturday morning because we were out late Friday night, no one cares.

CH (MAJ) William Beaver well, I don't think that at your pay grade you will find such a good offer as I found but, when I got here, Meade, my first duty station, everybody told me to look a house off post so I would pay less than my BAH. I checked in the housing office and there was a 25% discount on houses for E1 to E4. So I'm living on post, paying below BAH and don't have to worry about dealing with off post stuff. If something breaks, I just call and they are at my house pretty quick. No regrets so far...

Good thing for you is that on post you can see the huge difference between the junior enlisted houses and the Senior NCOs and Officers Houses. Those are really nice! CH (MAJ) William Beaver
