Is it common for a Navy Reservist to switch into active duty?

I just don't k ow if I can trust the reserve recruiters. They say it is easy but other say that it takes years to make the switch. Most settle for FTS which is the Navy reserves version of AGR for the national guard

AN (Join to see) - different question than what you asked. You have to get a conditional release from the USNR on a DD368. And the USNR flag officer can say no, and there it stops. Possible, yes. Probable...search conditional release on RP and see the stories. A RC unit has every incentive to say no.

AN (Join to see) - Easy vs Difficult is a different question all together. It's not uncommon but it's not easy. If you are trying to transition from a reservist to Active Duty mid contract it does have a degree of difficulty to it. FTS is slightly different and I would say comparing it to National Guard would be inaccurate and misleading. Most branches have Active Reservists which is what FTS would be. Activated Reservists serving. They are still reservists by contract but serving on active orders. It's not impossible but it is completely up to the monitors and depends on the current climate within the service, your mos and everything in between. I have seen some folks struggle for a month or two and get it approved while others took upwards to a year. Its a manpower issue and manpower is always fluctuating month to month year to year so there is never a perfect template that will fit every scenario.
