Presidents Day, a day off or it has a purpose?

I believe it gives time to reflect on the past and how great Presidents have lead this country.

It be great to say it serves a purpose but sadly, I think for the majority of people, its just a day off and a reason for stores to have sales. I think little reflection is given to the Presidents on this day other than appearing in annoying car and furniture commercials.
