I am in the National Guard and have attended Ranger School. First off, there are no Ranger units in the National Guard. There are Long Range Surveillance units in the National Guard that are a specialized scout unit that requires all of their NCOs to be Ranger qualified. That is an option in the Guard. The TX Guard has them but the LA Guard doesn't. To go to the 75th RGR you would have to transition over to Regular Army. Prior Service Soldiers are not allowed to go straight to the 75th RGR as their first duty assignment. I am sure there are special cases where it can happen but I have really never see it.

If you want to go to the Rangers you would need Ranger school. It would help you get there. But I am very wary of guys that want to go to the Rangers. It is a tough difficult life there. It is something that shouldn't be taken lightly.

Sir. I have actually seen it happen once (Cond Release) to go straight to Ranger Regt. He even had a letter of acceptance from Ranger BN (at Benning). I initially called BS until I called POC on LOA. The MSG I spoke told that if I ran into any issues with Soldiers paperwork let him know. Fastest I ever seen a Cond Release get processed from Guard.

SFC (Join to see) I know a guy in the Guard doing this. The Reg CSM wants him to join. In a case like that it works but it is rare.

To go to a Ranger Regiment, you typically need to attend RASP. There are two courses. RASP 1, which is for E-1 thru E-5, and RASP 2, E-6 and up. Being Ranger qualified won't make a difference inside RASP, but it will make things easier if and when you get to a BN.

Not a ranger, but no. It's just a training school and you can go to battalion without it.
