Advice for friend who wants to commission in another branch?

Over at my unit, many of the Marines are focused on their education, such as trade school, community college, or full-time university. Some of them are also trying to pursue commission after they graduate. One of them over in the S4 wants to be a supply officer, but wishes to go active-duty Navy, rather than staying in the Corps. My question is that does his current service obligation require him to stay in the same military branch, even if he tries to commission?

The Corps is going to have to release him if his contract is not up. The service obligation probably won't hold him up so much as any benefits he may have received that were tied specifically to being in the Corps under a specific MOS..but that is my guess.

No, on DD368 you select the branch you are switching to. It has to be approved by CoC and signed by G1.

Interesting question, I have friends who were enlisted Army and got out of that contract once they signed to pursue a commission, but that was within the same branch. I’d say their best bet would be to reach out to a local Navy ROTC unit, they’d have the best information on this
