Those who know me, know I love kickboxing and Muay Thai. I love Muay Thai and kickboxing! If I go a day without punching and kicking, I go in withdrawal! It's helped me lose weight, get in shape, and learn self-defense. I'm curious as to who else does some form of martial arts and what you get out of it? Is it fun for you or just another form of PT?

Several years ago I tried Taekwondo. I stuck with it for a year and a half, but I really wasn’t hooked on it. The sparring wasn’t hard enough to prepare a person for an actual fight. My son did it for a decade and made it to 2nd Dan. He also has a few years of MMA. Taekwondo isn’t bad and can be a good base. You just have to know what BS to discard and what to keep.
My son and I have been training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for the last three years. We’re both one stripe blue belts, but he still kicks my ass. I’m so hooked on BJJ that I don’t ever see myself quitting. My school, Triumph BJJ in Nashua, NH is also an MMA school, but due to my shift work I can’t make it to the MMA classes in the evening. That limits me to gi only BJJ in the morning classes.
I’m in a bit of a plateau right now. I kind of feel like I’ve gone backwards in skill, but since it’s such great exercise and I’ve made such great friends, Triumph BJJ will be my second home for looong time.
Yeah, that's a cammo gi in my profile picture. It was only $54 and I couldn't pass it up. That's my son beside me.

I've been thinking of trying BJJ after I complete my Muay Thai training. Right now I'm so totally hooked on Muay Thai. I've recently become a fight official and in the process of getting certified through the U.S. Muay Thai Association.

I think BJJ is great for women. If a stranger went to attack you they're likely get the jump on you and striking may not be an option. You'll quickly be on the ground and that's when the rapist starts having a very bad day.
Tomorrow is our Christmas party. Beer pong in the MMA cage and UFC-Aldo vs McGregor on a huge screen. It should be a great time.
