The Army deactivated the IM feature on aptops. Why? As an AGR Soldier it was a great way of communicating. to answer any/all professional questions.

I believe they took it away because it was useful. :)

Did you call the USAR help desk at: 855-55USARC and ask why?

No, my G6 at BN level said there was a patch that inactivated all of them. So i assumed (keyword) that it was legit. will give them a call on Monday. It was a great way of communicating internally (bldg) without wasting 30 mins. or communicating with Fellow NCO's or Officers you have met throughout your military career without alot of email banter. Were you or have u ever been at the 88th.thanks

Since I retired on 1 March, I don't follow as close on the Army Reserve anymore. I fully agree it was a great way of communicating. In my new job we use Lync (like MSgt Copeland below). It makes the MS Communicator look antique in regards to what it can do for an organization. I hope the Army Reserve is making an up grade to Lync for you. Yes, I was in the 322 Maintenance Company in Arden Hills (under the 88th from 2004 to 2008). My dad was under the 88th much longer than me. He retired in July 2007. Are you going to the 88th reunion on 15-16 May in Minneapolis?

That seems weird. AF has MS Lync on all our gov PCs and it is built in to our webmail.
