Just started Master Leader Course (MLC) Distance Learning (DL) and having a challenging time with the material and black board. Some of my frustrations come from not being familiar with black board. I always option for a resident course but with the current medical situation of the nation that is not an option unfortunately.

Just finished it about a month ago. My advice: relax... do you best. The instructors are adjusting to the dl just like you are. Work with your group and participate as much as possible. Focus on NCO Core Competencies when doing the EXSUMS and follow all rubrics carefully.

Best of luck!

It took me a couple days to get used to the Black Board set up, it will get easier. Just relax and take your time with everything. Set aside a lot of time if you can and let your family know this will be a lot of work you need to do. Once its over it is a great feeling to get it behind you.

A few questions if you can help:
1. I just got the email from ATRRS with my start date for MLC DL on 07 October and was wondering how long it takes to get the welcome letter from the course with all the info. Also, when does access to Blackboard become available. Alot of the items i found on the sites and stuff had info but outdated and want to make sure I dont miss anything.

2. Is the days and schedule structured or regulated? Or do we get assignments and times to be online but otherwise it is working at our own pace? I am asking because I have the opportunity to take Battle Staff at the same time because an MTT team is coming to Hawaii to do this, but they only come once a year. Will I have the time to manage my time accordingly like it was taking two college courses at the same time? Thoughts on this please!!

For me, I didn’t get any info until about a week out of the course start date. Yes everything was outdated on the site for me too.

There is a schedule for the course but it is not structured time that you have to be one. More like deadlines for you to have the work done by. You get a week to get all the work done and have your group times to get the papers and power points done. So it’s really all on your own.
