Can I attend Airborne School or Ranger School in the National Guard?

I'm wondering if it is possible to attend airborne school or ranger school in the national guard. Im 11bravo and I was hoping i could go that route. I am thinking it would be easier to switch to active first but I want to see what my options are in the guard. Thanks in advance.

PFC (Join to see) I've been 30+ schools as a tradition National Guard soldier, including Ranger, airborne, pathfinder, mountain warfare, assault climber, sniper, etc. My first piece of advice is, always take ANY school you can get. Distinguish yourself as the one that will go to the 6-day shit-burning course, because when the high speed stuff comes up, you will be on the forefront of everyone's mind to fill that slot.
As others have said, your path to completing those schools is always easier if you are in a slot that requires them. If you are in Texas, you can interview to join the 143rd INF. If accepted, you would very quickly go to airborne (within a year). As you become an NCO, you would also likely have the opportunity to attend Ranger, pathfinder, jumpmaster, and more, as these are all required skills to have in an airborne unit.

Yes you can but you probably won’t be able to.
What you can do is join the NG and apply to RASP. If you pass RASP, you will go active into the 75th and go to Airborne and eventually Ranger School

SPC (Join to see) they may have changed it again, about two years ago they had a program to allow NG to try out. GoArmy is notoriously wrong and out of date, and is never a good source of information; it’s purpose is recruiting not giving information. There is no such thing as “doing 6 months AD”. You’re either on AD or you are not. Anyone on active duty can apply at almost any time, including in AIT.

SFC (Join to see) - Aah, like D Company 151st Infantry Regiment LRS in Indiana. I would have figured that a battalion would recruit the junior guys right off the farm.

That seems a little wild; I doubt that happens very often. We had a handful of guys from my guard unit attend Ranger School. If you’re infantry, good at PT, and your state has money, they’ll send you.

SFC (Join to see) I should have worded it better. You must go AD and be with your traditional unit prior to applying. As I said the 75th RR recruiter I spoke to said you can have a small break in service and go option 40. Seems like the best option. Unless they still do that program you mentioned.

Ranger school is doable as an 11B in the National Guard, but slots can be limited and dependent on you state’s funding. In the NG to get an airborne school seat you must first be in an airborne slot, those are very limited and only in a few states.

I'm in texas if that means anything. I heard we have 1 or 2 ranger units here. I made the mistake of passing up a airborne guard contract and passed up ranger contract in basic. Now I'm regretting it and trying to get back onto an airblorne slot. Thank you for the info SSG

PFC (Join to see) Texas has an airborne infantry battalion, so you have hope for that. There are no Ranger units in the National Guard, I believe you may be confusing Ranger School with Ranger Regiment. You can go to Ranger School in the Guard, particularly as an 11B, but you would have to switch to Active Duty to join the 75th Ranger Regiment.
