92 "anything" is going to be pretty easy to find openings. With the USAR you can game the system and be willing to travel for your promotion.

The requirements are exactly the same for both components.
The difference is that each promotion would require a valid vacancy for that MOS and grade.
More positions of that MOS and grade, the faster the promotions.
Depends on what MOS you want, or are willing to take.

AN (Join to see) - 92Y in both the Guard and Reserves allow for promotion to E6 at every unit, E7 at every BN and E8 at every BDE at roughly the same rate.
Most of those 92Y E6, 7 and 8 positions are AGR.

For the Guard, it depends on the MOS and how many slots are available per rank per MOS is available within the State.

AN (Join to see) - Basically correct. For promotions in the Guard, you are competing against other folks with the same MOS within the State. For the Reserves, we are competing nationwide, basically. Both Guard and Reserve members must be willing to travel IOT promote to higher ranks. Especially for the SSG and higher ranks.

AN (Join to see) - Yes. It's paid for with IDT funds. It will reimburse you up to $500.00 of your travel expenses. But this is for those that live 100 miles or more from their unit.

We have guys in my reserve unit that transferred from the guard to get promoted who commute 3-4 hours every month for BA. It has been my experience that it's easier to get promoted in the Reserves simply because there are more slots available if you are willing to travel.
