I'm clumbsy and fell out of a truck back in February and it's now December. I finally was able to get 2 MRIs done recently. And now doc is offering MEB. I messed up my back, hip and foot.

Left foot has plantar fasciitis.

Back has bulging disc, ligamentous
,facet joint hypertrophy, and neuroforaminal stenosis.

Hip has labral tear, hip impengment and there's a tear on the socket of the hip.

The ortho says the surgery isn't very successful if I'm trying to stay in and stay active. 50% "successful" the other 50% gets worse.

He asked if I wanted to go MEB.
My question is, what are my options here? What kind of training is out there? What kind of realistic rating should I expect from the VA?

Any advice? I'm all ears.. ?

Ask for a MAR2 if you think you are still capable of wearing body armor and deploying in the future. The combat weight of support MOS is nowhere near as heavy as a Fisters working combat load with ruck. You can still MEB at a later date if you need to. That is, if you want to stay active.

No way to give an estimate on a rating without all the details and medical knowledge as well as the rating levels for each condition. Don't bother wasting your time trying to think of an accurate ballpark. It will drive you batty.

Remember, you have your GI bill. Depending on your rating, you'll have access to VR&E. Your state or record might have programs specifically for vets as well that you might want to look into. Again, without more info, it's difficult to say what you may have to look forward to.

SGT (Join to see) no prob. I was medically retired back in '14. It may seem abrupt, but there is a future ahead, and it's as bright as you make it. Think about what you might want to do. Your GI Bill will get you all the way through an undergraduate degree. You can go to a tech school, too. I've been able to go from zero college to a finished master's. It just depends on you, bud. I will say, make sure your finances are straight. It won't take long for your pay to start after the MEB, but you might not be ready for the paycut itlf you don't plan. If the MEB starts, make sure to stay abreast of the timeline. Plan to move where you want and start school or a new job as quickly as possible. You're going to appreciate the structure of a job (even part time) or going to school. Believe me. Going from active duty to fully free civilian is a culture shock.

Ok, so the MEB breaks it down like this.

You will be screened for all of your bangs and bruises but the star of the show will be what put you on the MEB. You will get results and percentages for everything but the percentage for the main injury that resulted in the MEB will be the one that dictates whether it is separation or medical retirement.

I'm not sure what you mean by "what training is out there?"
You don't train for an MEB so I don't understand where you are driving on that one.

If you can't train and you can't do the job it sounds like you need to move forward. Nobody can make the decision for you if you want to get surgery. I opted for surgery when I had knee issues and ended up getting Med boarded but the findings of the surgeries ended up helping my cause in the long run.

I'm looking for what training is out there for seperation. Ya know so I can find a job. I know sfltap is a thing justbjot sure if there are other resources.

Doc told me when he called today. That my best option is to MEB. I don't want to. I'm totally planning on dragging my feet. I'm going to contact the MEB office on post. But I'm sure they'll blow smoke up my back side. Hopefully I'll get enough of a rating to actually get decent benefits.

SGT (Join to see) - if they go by the book and put you on limited duty that will buy you 6-18 months if they renew the limited duty every 6 months. That is up to the medical folks because if there isn't active treatment going on they could go straight to med board at the completion of each limdu period. At the end of your limdu they submit the MEB package and that's after doing all of your VA screenings to gather your percentages. For me I was injured October 2009 and received my med board decision March 2012. It can be a lengthy process but depending on the illness/injury they can fast track it.

As far as training you have plenty of resources. If you are placed on a MEB there will be a couple separation classes you are sent to in addition to the standard seps classes your average SM goes through. The VA also provides training and classes as well to help folks when it comes to going through the processes and benefits, etc. etc.

Be super proactive. Don't lean back and assume anything until the ratings come back.
