Should you put Retired or Separated after your rank if you are no longer serving in an active capacity (active duty, guard, reserve)?

Are you asking about here on RallyPoint or for other sites? I would think it would be a moot point on RP since our ranks and status are there for everyone to see.
As for correspondence in the rest of the world, I rarely use my former rank when I sign my name. After all, I'm retired and no longer serve in that capacity. That being said, I will sign my name as MSgt Steven Holt, USAF Ret on things where appropriate such as a memorial book at a funeral for a veteran. I also like to sign my name in that manner when I send letters to my son who's deployed simply because I like to remind him even though he's a SGT in the Army, I STILL outrank him as dad and an NCO.
Hope that answers the question you were driving toward.

And even here, it is not ME that includes my rank in my listing. RP does that
As I read these posts, I find myself not even looking at the rank or the posters.
It just doesn't matter to me.
I was always taught that "you are not respecting the man, you are respecting the RANK displayed on the uniform", but if he's not in uniform, well he's just another man.
I guess I don't have enough rank to make an issue of it

as other have stated already , if its some type of event that would center around The Military then a notation of Rank would be acceptable , but otherwise in The General Public -No !,

SGT Jimmy Russo - Yup.. All retirees are equal - they SURVIVED. Any fool who thinks he is impressing someone by using their rank is a FOOL, & usually ignored.
I may be off-base, but I assume your question concerns non-RP activities.
To be honest, in the "civilian" world, I find that I have very little occasion to use my military rank on anything. But on the rare occasion that I do, I will put down GySgt USMC (Ret.).

SSG (Join to see) - I personally know several people who are retired due to combat incurred disability but I don't know what their papers say.

GySgt Wayne A. Ekblad - Mine certainly doesn't. It doesn't have any significance to what I do now.

In my type of job it is not relevant to my task or responsibilities. It would not impact the Quality of the decisions to make for Public Safety. It is guided by the FDA requirements.
