Advice for transitioning to a Warrant Officer from the 25B field?

I'm a 25B. I've been thinking about becoming a warrant officer. I'm currently getting ready to go to the board so I can get promoted to SGT and make the transition and start a packet. Any information on what I need to start doing or advice would be very helpful.

As someone who has transitioned from 25B to 255A, my best advice to you right now would be this: STAY ACTIVE DUTY. Being a warrant officer is great, but in the Army Reserve, you might wind up stuck somewhere because of a lack of open positions, so it's hard to grow.

Find a good recruiter – they will help you put your packet together. I believe you need at least two years as an NCO in the MOS you are applying for - four is preferable. A warrant officer is supposed to be technically proficient in their MOS – this is where you need to take a hard look at yourself and decide if you’re ready. In all honesty, the credibility of the warrant officer corps has been damaged over the years because Soldiers are becoming warrant officers who aren’t ready. You don’t want to be one of these warrant officers because no one will take you seriously or listen to you. Your Accessions NCO will have a plethora of information for you. Requirements constantly change so keep yourself informed and updated.

I'm currently deployed and attached to a reserve unit. How would I know who is the accessions nco in that unit.

Your Assessions NCO will be at your originally assigned unit, if you were cross-leveled, at the Battalion level. They usually are in the same office as the Retention NCO, but they could have a different office. You can also just google search your Warrant MOS and get the minimum requirements for application. Remember, you are going up against the best and brightest. Meeting the minimum requirement for application will not be enough for you to stand out among the packets, let alone be enough to gain a CW3's LoR for your packet.
