I've been in the Army for what will be 5 years next month. I reenlisted last month for 3 years, for my assignment to Germany with a report date of 10 June 2014. At the time i was not promotable. I was told by my Retention/Career Counselor that in order for me to I had to be promotable so i could extend my contract another 6 months to be able to complete the full tour. I am now promotable and when i went back to talk to my Career counselor they told me that i now have to be promoted before May in order to get my orders cut for Germany. Is this true or should I still be able to extend.

SPC(P) Parker,

I'm going to guess that recent changes to Retention Control Points have put you in this position. According to ALARACT 026/14 (Link Below) your RCP is now 8 years regardless of your promotable status as of 1 Feb 2014. As such they cannot extend your contract past your current RCP date. Whether or not this should affect you being able to go to Germany or not, I have no idea.
