Team,

I currently have 2 junior enlisted soldiers under me and I am trying to get more guidance on the GWOTSM. I have asked S1 personnel and they have given me dates of "end of eligibility" ranging from DEC 12 to JULY 13. However whenever I look it up on AR 600-8-22 2006 (RAR 24 June 2013) verision it still states that the date is still to be determined. What if any is the date for "end of eligibility for the GWOTSM and where can I reference that date. Thank you in advance for your help and guidance.

Respectfully,

Velazquez, Edwin J.

Good job taking care of your soldiers and following up. I just in processed two new soldiers in the past couple weeks at my unit and neither had the GWOTSM on their 214s. I asked them about it and they were told by the people processing the 214s the period had closed. I didn't even bother to double check because I figured those people would know for sure. Goes to show even when you've been around a while it's good to double check. I usually know better. Will have to go back and square away my two soldiers now.

Edit: Just checked the link MSG (P) Quick gave to HRC, for my reserve soldiers they specifically are not authorized because the Basic and AIT time on AD does not count which I thought was the case. Makes me wonder about any that showed up with it now instead the new guys.

from the Q/A portion of that page:
Q8: When is an active duty Soldier who has just graduated AIT authorized to be awarded the GWOTSM?

A8: An active duty Soldier who has just graduated AIT may be awarded the GWOTSM after they have met the criterion that is specified in para 2-19 of AR 600-8-22, Military Awards. After being assigned to his/her permanent unit for 30 days, the commander may authorize the Soldier award of the GWOTSM. No orders are required for this action.

The GWOT-SM eligibility window is still open ended. It has not expired.
