I am going through AIT (MOS-T) and have orders to Hood in March. I submitted my 5118 back in august when I received my follow-on “soft” orders.

With a month left I still haven’t received my orders, I was told it’s because I haven’t completed my PHA, I did the online portion back in October as well.

My wife is due as soon as we get to Ft Hood and still haven’t been able to get on the wait list for a house, is there anything I can do to speed up the process/ or do PHA online since I’m not at Ft benning to do it?

Thank you.

There's no such thing as "soft orders" that's not a thing. Right now, everything you have done up to this point is basically completely jacked up and is going to take a while to fix.

Since you haven't really given enough information, it sounds like you gave "someone" your 5118. If your PHA was out of date at the time then your 5118 would not have been signed by medical meaning that your 5118 was never completed to begin with and thus not accepted by levy. Or, you were green on all medpros and your 5118 was signed my medical and turned in but you didn't receive your orders in return. Since you haven't received your orders and you are now out of date on your PHA, it means you failed to turn in a complete levy packet, or else your orders would have already been released to you. As for the PHA itself, you have to complete the whole PHA not just the online portion. It says it right on the PHA that you have to meet with a provider. It's an annual requirement meaning this isn't your first time doing one. You're an NCO, I don't believe that you don't already know this.

Your wife is due in March, you received follow on assignment instructions in August, meaning that you would have probably gone to school between October and December. You would have known your spouse was pregnant long before going to school and could have requested a deferment before then, saving your spouse the anxiety of PCSing in the third trimester. Pregnant women should not travel in the third trimester to start with. Second, how is your spouse supposed to get setup with a new OB when she arrives in Hood, before the baby is born?

You require a DD1610 to pay for your TDY training. You have no 1610 because you have no orders. Meaning you traveled on your GTC with no line of accounting funding your travel. Sometimes a unit will try to fake the funk and give you an unsigned 1610 but DFAS is not going to accept that when you file your travel voucher. If your unit loaded your travel in DTS the approval authority is not going to approve it without the fund site that is cited in your orders and the unit is certainly not going to pay for it. You will be financially responsible for your TDY incurred costs until you fix it and that will include interest and late fees. There is a statement in the orders special instructions and the EPMD assignment notification that tells you that you will need a DD1610 and to go see your DTS manager for it.

This is what you will have to do-
1. Contact your Career Counselor for a follow on deferment because of your spouse's pregnancy. You'll need a copy of your spouse's due date. Ask for 60-90 days after that.
2. You will need to complete your levy packet and turn it in. That requires you are green on MEDPROS for your 5118 and you need your BN CDR signature on it, along with all the other levy documents. You will need to select the option that says you will return to post to clear on your TDY Option sheet.
3. When you receive your orders contact your DTS manager for a 1610. Explain very clearly and slowly to them that you are TDY ENROUTE. Even though you are returning, you are NOT TDY and Return, you are TDY ENROUTE. I'm capitalizing it because it's important. It's important because your 1610 will get rejected over and over adding unnecessary delays if it's not processed correctly.

Those first three steps are everything that was supposed to happen BEFORE going to training. You can't even begin to worry about the next steps like getting on a housing list or picking a move date until you've fixed all that. Whatever you do, don't try to just PCS and leave before that's complete because it will make things worse and put you in a serious financial bind.

Thanks SFC, I thought I was doing it all correctly and ahead of time, I went to talk to the PA before I even left for school and talked to her about my PHA, figured it was completed on their end but I guess I was wrong, and straight messed up the process. I appreciate the advice and guidance.

SGT (Join to see) it happens more often than you'd think. Reclass follow up is one of the least understood and most screwed up things. Luckily you you have to defer because of your spouse so you'll have time to untangle this when you return. Good luck.

I think this is a base specific thing. Each base will have different requirements for out processing and being cut orders. Your initial post doesn't say who is withholding your orders, but if it is the S1, try contacting the MPD office directly.

Unfortunately, nothing with the military is rushed especially with people teleworking unless you have a GO driving the train. Don't worry about the housing list they'll have one. Going forward remember, the "squeaky wheel gets the most grease. Don't wait until crunch time to ask for help. Honestly, someone should have helped you from the beginning. The best person to take care of you is you!!
