I am interested to see what everyone thinks. Should you have atleast one deployment under your belt to win? I knows few soldiers who have attended who never deployed, purely because they were pipelines into a unit that does not deploy. Should this disqualify them? Is there job any less important? Should they have there own competition? Just curious about others thoughts! Thanks for your input!

Are one of the prerequisites that you have to be a combat veteran? If not, then No! Think about it. Will this competition end when the last deployed soldiers ETS/Retire out? I don't think so. A Soldier is still a Soldier with or w/o a combat patch.

I totally agree SFC Joseph James I just new a soldier that went. One the vast majorities of events (I saw the scoring sheets) he lost the competition to another soldier who had scored after him in every event. There was a lot of thought that it was because he had not seen combat. It was a shame.

Got ya, or maybe he that guy just wasn't all good as the other. I don't think people are so hard up on the patch. It is weird now a days seeing people with out one. I was in in 2000 and we (in 2002 w/ 101st Airborne) were one of the first of this generation to put combat patches on. Now that was weird.

I am undecided myself. I think if you were selected to attend the competition at all, you must be an outstanding soldier!
