To all the junior enlisted, what do you want to see from your senior leadership to help/mentor/guide and train you on with your military career development and/or transition to the civilian world development? Please ask genuine questions that I, or my peers can answer so we can assist you on your path in or out the military.

A leader that takes the time to mentor young NCO's to be better. Sees and grooms their leadership style into the one they already see prevalent in the young leader. Groom and work with strong female junior leaders the same way you would a male, looking past gender and acknowledging some of us are just as outspoken as our male peers.

When I was in, the one thing I wanted from my NCO/SNCO was guidance. I wanted to be taken under wing & taught how the job was done correctly.

Most of the NCOs did this, however, there was one SNCO in particular that seemed to be more interested in putting up a stone wall to the junior enlisted than he was mentoring us. I know for a fact that he was the reason several did not re-up when time came.

We all have good and bad leadership. We learn a lot from both in regards to how want to be seen and act, and how we don't want to be referred to as a turd behind our backs. The great thing we can choose in the military as in the civilian world is a mentor. Someone we can go to for guidance, counsel and advice. We lose good people all the time through bad leadership, but more to them not being reasilliant enough to fight through the bad and come out on top. I've had horrible leadership early and in the middle of my career and I've chosen to never let them wear me down, or give in to their toxic forms of leadership.

I totally agree. When I was pulled from the field & put in the armory, the leadership there was outstanding! Both NCOs did everything they could for me in order to allow for me to advance my career. Unfortunately, since the medical board didn't think the force needed me, I was told to go home early. I really miss those guys & wish I could reconnect with them somehow.
