Hopefully someone will get a noti for a fast reply.. SPC (P). Almost done with my associates but, I am very interested in dropping the packet. I've been scouring reddit and have found a bunch of information for this job but just wanted some more clarification. Is the optempo as much as you all say it is? Married with a 9 month old son and a daughter due in July. Will I be gone (away from home) as much as some of you say? If that's the case, I'll just go civ side. I just want a career that will benefit me, and my family. I've seen too many families fall apart due to high optempo and I would rather that not happen to me. Also, how long is the incurred service requirement upon completion of AIT?

You'll go be a civilian lineman because you'll be at home more often? Lol who do you think spent months in California restringing lines after the wildfires? They came there from across the country and spent months away from their families.

If you don't know the SRR for the MOS, then you've never actually looked at the requirements for the MOS. I suggest you start with looking on the school house website and checking out the 12P recruiting presentation as well as the packet to get first hand info as opposed to anecdotal information from Reddit. Not that Reddit is bad, it's a good place to talk to people who are in the job, but it's not the source for information about the job or about the application

Thanks for the information SFC. When I said “go civ side” I meant that I would ETS and work at job that would actually offer more family time. I apologize for the miscommunication on my part. I did look at the Corps of Engineers webpage for the SRR when viewing the application process but didn’t see it. I may have glanced over it on accident. Nevertheless, I will look a second time. Again, thanks for the info!

SGT (Join to see) the SRR is three years, you need to pull down the application all info and requirements for the different tests are in there

Check out prime power school page on Facebook as well, they have some testimonials and could help connect you to people who have more experience in the field then I do.

I am almost finished with ait, but i have talked to some of the alc guys and I hear mixed things alot of them say it short periods gone and then back. Ait and when i signed it was a 3 year commitment. School is hard but so far very rewarding. Everyone i have seen who went through the schoolhouse already seems to really enjoy this mos and it definitely sets you up for very good civilian jobs if you decide not to stay in
