I am a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard and currently have a flag in the system for failing my APFT before they switched to the ACFT, what are my options under the new regulations etc to get my flag removed? My sgt said he does not know and says it's very possible that I may not be allowed to take a apft due to covid restrictions,

You take another APFT and pass it. That's the only way people can take an APFT is if they are flagged for a failure.

Lots of people have taken APFTs since last year to get off a flag. It's possible even with covid restrictions.

I have to think commanders are gaming this so they can push their APFT pass rate to 100%. No added failures are being added to unit numbers. Folks that can't take advantage of this are truly a lost cause.

CPT (Join to see) But he said he's flagged. So that's showing up in DTMS. The only way to get rid of an APFT flag is taking an APFT. Even during covid.

SFC (Join to see) - Correct, and anyone that just barely passed has been able to coast on those coat tails, and it carried it forward for them this last year. Those that were flagged, could still get unflagged, and thus improve the unit pass rate.

Looking at it from a USAR perspective, in a normal year, if I was lucky at the time of a Record APFT I would be lucky to trade flag removals and new flags one for one.

An entire year passed where AFPT failures could be pecked away at toward the insane rate of 100% pass if a unit strove to do that.

You can take an apft or acft currently to lift a flag. Pass and the flag will be lifted.

The APFT is still authorized for anyone who has a current APFT flag only.
If your unit refuses to conduct an APFT due to COVID, find an adjacent unit, Guard or Reserve, that will conduct the test for flags.

To add: if your unit is actively preventing you from taking the APFT without good reason, that may be an opportunity to use your NCO support channel and/or the next higher commander's open door policy. If you decide to do this, make sure to do it the right way; inform your direct chain you intend to utilize the commander's open door policy and why. It's a pretty bold move, but it may encourage some action just by voicing your intended actions to resolve.

Unless you're pushing the unit to make unrealistic or unreasonable accommodations, they should have no issues doing an APFT to lift the flag.
