it states that all soldiers deployed to one of these areas receiving IDP, and HDP are authorized a combat patch as long as they are in support or actively engaging in the operation. Are we authorized to wear this patch? I’ve seen soldiers wearing the patch and the patch being the entire operations patch it seems like we can wear it per the regulations. Anyone have any experience and or currently wearing the patch?

Here is the one and only answer you need for this patch - and all others.

ASK YOUR CHAIN OF COMMAND.

Seriously, they will know better than us. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

That alone saved a lot of people from heartache and NJP after my first deployment ended. Despite receiving IDP and HDP, patches weren't allowed based on the exact verbiage at the time that authorized the wear of the patch and the overseas stripe.

No. You wear the unit patch you wore wile deployed. This is the patch for the Headquarters for that operation.

SGT(P) (Join to see) prior to I think 2008 you could wear any patch in your chain of command. Now I think it's any unit that deploys at Platoon level of above wears their own patch.

Patch memos are a made up thing the guard and reserve do.

SGT(P) (Join to see) - a unit memo means nothing.
Army G1 authorizes a patch other than your own in those cases.
If that memo didn't make it up to, and get approved by G1, it is worthless.

LTC (Join to see) - I got one when I was attached to the 101st when I was active duty. I was in a unique situation. I was with the 18th ABC Long Range Surveillance Company. We got attached to a bunch of units. We could wear our unit patch or the 101st. We were with them for about 6 months. I still wear my unit patch as my combat patch.

This happened to me when I was deployed to Iraq my second time and the same thing happened when I was in Jordan. No one wanted to wear their unit patch. They wanted to wear an active duty patch. I was actually saddened by this. Where is the proud in the unit? When I was there in Jordan I made up a ruck march that taught our Soldiers our unit history. It went great. I think it's a poor showing to collect patches like they are baseball cards. I have 3 patches. I wear the patches that my unit wore to combat and the same patch that some wore when they paid the ultimate sacrifice.
