With tensions rising around the world and the recent prevocations by China, will we soon be at war with a major world power?

This scenario is not impossible but highly unlikely due to the economic interdependence we have with them.

No, China has too much at stake in terms of economic development to throw it into the wind by going to war. I heard the new prime minister is trying to cut down on corruption and maybe better relationship with America.

A shooting war ... no. But, as a discussion I posted earlier today alluded to, I think we are heading toward a "cold war" scenario not unlike what we had with the U.S.S.R.

This is possible but it would be a virtual Cold War with a lot of "spontaneous impromptu " war games to keep the arms merchants in cocktail onions.

The worst thing that could happen is a f up.. we or they accidentally blow up one of our own vessels in the middle of some planned saber rattling ,and someone loses their cool the thing goes hot everyone is screaming for the blood of the demonized "aggressor" some less than competent bastards recommend an aggressive course of action because it just too embarrassing to own a f up especially since (who Evers) military has been advertised to the citizens as the best on earth..... Then you have a whole lot of men who wanted nothing of the sort to happen unable to ask for calmer voices without being called soft on (other sides form of government). Money is spent, fleets are mobilized, soldiers are deployed... the inevitable shitstorm of normal training accidents goes nuclear with millions of potential mishaps of the most ordinary kind happening every day. The media anxious to be on point and selling air time is ready to find the enemy under every discarded news rag and suspicious package.. A random sicko gets out a gun a hoses down a crowd in public shouting support for (the enemy) next thing we know generals who never supervised anything more enormous than a field parade are giving sage advice as to how and when and where we will attack the enemy and strangle them in one fell swoop.........(NEED I go on?)
