Going to meps soon but I’m a bit confused about which MOS to Pick. 68w, I’m already Emt certified so I’d enlist as an e4 under the acasp*** program. Or 68r which I find very interesting and could lead to a better future but I’d enlist as e3 with my college credits. Any constructive advice would be appreciated.

I'm a current an Active duty whiskey. There is no other job in the 68 field that I'd rather do. I'm in field hospital so we have pretty much everyone there 68C, 68D, 68J etc. Ultimately it's you're life and you'll have to make the decision yourself, so in the end just pick the MOS which is best for you. Hard and good times are guaranteed especially in the active side. I do know that 68R is rarely offered as anything that deals with animals in the military is in high demand. You're just as a 68R will be very specific so the day to day activities will be the same. As a Medic, you could be with a Combat line company, working in a hospital ER department in Hawaii or Germany, at a field hospital, as medic coverage for training school, pulling sick call every morning for your company etc. So if you like an ever changing field 68W is something to look at.

Neither. 68A or 68P would be better for a civilian career. Are you going AD or reserves? You can always try to reclass after your first contract too. I’m getting ready to go to my third career school. (88N for 6 yrs, 68A for 8 and just transferred over to Civil Affairs -38B)

SSG (Join to see) 6 figures is possible but hard to come by until either just time(raises and such) or after you have the experience in either a specialized area or get into management or something like that. I work in MRI and CT. I just moved from the largest imaging OEM to the second largest, got a pay bump (base 80k plus OT which is calculated daily as opposed to weekly) as well as a 20k relocation bonus with amazing benefits(4 weeks vacation first year, paid parental leave and military leave, company car/phone/computer etc.) So I’m by no means rich but it’s a comfortable living and allowed my wife to stay home with the kids until they start school. Rad Techs can make as much or more depending on what modality you get certified in and any specialties(like say cardiac or vascular ultrasound)

What is your college credit in? Might be worthwhile to wait to finish your degree and direct commission as An AMEDD officer.

I was doing nursing but I honestly can’t afford that rn. NYC cost of living is quite expensive.

Kacey Witter completely understandable. Have you looked into the scholarship version for ROTC? That could be a viable option for you. I was a 68W and then had the opportunity to direct commission. Partial to the officer side of the house, but there's a lot of opportunity in AMEDD!

Do you want to work with animals or people? Being a W will give you experience working with people and being a R will give you experience working with animals... at least on paper. Half the (very few) R’s I know spent no time with live animals all their time inspecting dead animals and the things that contained them.

I know a select few R’s who went on to lucrative careers after retiring as MSG’s and working as executives in corporations. Like every other non-mechanical, non-commo MOS, your job only translates to low level work or prepares you to be a mid level manager. You’ll most likely need to grab an extra level of education outside the military for you to use your experience toward a decent paying career.

I was a 91b (68W) enjoyed the schools and the units. You could qualify for Physician Assistant (PA) in a few years with some college education.

The only skill that a 68W comes out of the Army with is an EMT license, which you already have, so you know what you'd get paid. If you join as a 68W and already have some of your nursing pre-reqs, work hard for two years and then look at the AECP. It is a commissioning program where the Army pays for the last two years of nursing school, pays you Active Duty pay during those two years, and then you get commissioned as an Army Nurse. *Source of info- AD 68W for over 9 years
If I picked an MOS just based on job skills, I'd pick 68P (you can get your MRI and CT classes covered which is an excellent skill as a civilian), or 68C to work on nursing skills to get an LPN to BSN. If you did LPN to BSN, you can then apply for direct commission as an Army officer. Choices are endless, hope that helps!

Kacey Witter - You are very welcome! I just had a friend graduate the AECP and it is an excellent program. You are allowed to pick any college within a 100 mile radius of ANY military installation. The school just has to be willing to accept the Army's flat rate tuition. It is on you to meet that school's pre-reqs for entry into the nursing program. Good luck with all your future endeavors.

What’s the best choice to become a doctor. I will sign up soon I don’t have any college degrees but I am aspiring to become a doctor. I want to serve active duty and go to college online. What would be the best mos for the most educational assistance and credits?

I'm currently a 68R and if you're looking for a job where you can get stationed at some of the best duty sites the military has then id highly recommend it. definitely a great way to see the world and knock out school at the same time.

If you are already emt certified then the 68w will give you no additional certifications for the civilian side. For medical mos’s to transfer to civilian id suggest 68k, 68v, 68p
